The National Fragile X Foundation released the preliminary agenda for the 2010 conference. I guess maybe I didn’t fully understand what this conference involves…there are 18 pages of topics and 99% of them are on my “must attend” list. Holy moly.
How on earth are we going to be able to do this?? Divide and conquer I guess. I’m going to have to figure out a way to help Duhdee stay focused. Hmmm…I think my grandfather has remote training collars from his hunting days…
We’ve booked our flights and hotel, we’ll be in Detroit on Tuesday. Yay!
hey-we’re going also! I looked at the list and there is a ton of stuff that looks great. Are you taking Monkey along? Our kids are staying at home with some foolish relatives! Recently someone told me that they think it’s pathetic that the conference is our alone vacation for the summer. If they’d like to pay for a RELAXING trip, I’m all for that one, too.

We’re leaving Monkey with my parents for the week. I thought briefly about taking him along but he would not enjoy it at all beyond the airplanes.
People are giving me a hard time about the conference as a “vacation” too, especially because it’s in Detroit, I think. Pshaw, I say!
A whole week of no night wakings, no one jumping on my head at 5:30 AM (at least there better not be!), being able to eat at my own pace, not having to constantly be thinking “OK, is time for a snack? When did he last go to the bathroom?”, being able to stay out later than 7:30, being able to go on an outing and not have to worry about breakage, containment or meltdowns? How does that NOT sound like a vacation?? It could be on an iceberg and STILL qualify in my world, lol.
As a native Detroiter I am thrilled to welcome all of the FX community to our area. I would like to make a few suggestions if you find yourself with time to step out of the awesome conference events.
1. Check out the Detroit Insititute of Arts – it is magnificient. I loved it as a child and appreciate it as an adult.
2. Lots of great expensive and not restaraunts around downtown including Greektown.
3. Eastern Market is a Detroit insititution and really fun; farmers, music, food and people watching.
4. The Detroit Zoo is about a half hour from downtown and is one of the best.
5. The Henry Ford (you’ll have to look at the website; too much to list here).
6. The tunnel to Canada; the bridge back.
7. Walk along the Detroit River front and you will see Detroit around you and Canada right across the river.
8. There are several entertainment venues downtown; check for who/what is happening.
Much more but you’ll be kept pretty busy with the impressive conference offerings and again. We’re exciting you’re coming our way.
