This has been one of the longest weeks ever. Of course, every week seems that way right now 🙂
Monkey seems to be settling in to his new classroom. He’s still not able to walk all the way to the classroom in the mornings but once we’re there he jumps right in to activities. It was reported yesterday that he played chase for quite a long time and then participated in a game of “Ring Around the Rosie!” He’s played this with me before but he’s never played with a large group. Quite impressive.
His teacher noted that he does not like to color with markers, that they require a lot of fine motor control and he prefers to not engage. Can you folks think of any fun ways to get him to participate?
punkin only does well with dry erase markers, preferrably on an easel. everything else is kind of a fight. and if there’s a whole bucket of crayons — like more than 5 — he loses his mind and does this thing where he flails his hands inside the basket and makes them fly all over the table.
so i guess no. =)
Well, actually that might be something…Monkey will also use dry erase markers on an easel. I wonder if we put the paper on the easel if he’ll give the regular markers a shot…
Ian also likes dry erase. Same thing, he throws anything else that would be in bunches, usually.
But Ian will use markers and crayons properly when I put a LARGE sheet of butcher paper on the wall (actually I use a door). He gets to stand and do great input with vertical and horizontal motion.
Isn’t it exciting to watch them participate with other kids?!!!!! Way to go!
